They spoke of lands past the southern line
Where the maps run thin and the stars don’t shine
Where the sea goes quiet and the wind forgets
And the tide don’t turn like the charts have set
There’s a route not drawn and a path not named
That the old ones knew but never claimed
And a man who sails just a mile too far
Won’t come back the way he are
Oh the outer lands where the white mists stay
Where the compass spins and won’t obey
You can chase that line where the oceans bend
But you won’t come back the way you went
There’s a trade of routes that were never made
And a price for paths that should not be paid
Where the ice stands tall like a silent wall
And the sea don’t answer a man at all
Some say shadows move in the frozen blue
Just beyond what your eyes can prove
And the wake you leave don’t stay behind
But drifts ahead like it knows your mind
Oh the outer lands where the white mists stay
Where the compass spins and won’t obey
You can chase that line where the oceans bend
But you won’t come back the way you went
There’s a line in the sea no chart can hold
And a truth in the cold no man’s been told
You can mark your course and you can be brave
But not every road was meant to be saved
Oh the outer lands where the white mists stay
Where the compass spins and won’t obey
You can follow south where the lost winds bend
But you won’t come back… the way you went
