The Concept Album base on the book

The Concept Album

 Sail into the unknown.

This cinematic concept album brings the pages of Beyond the Charts to life — a dramatic re-telling of Captain James Cook’s voyages, the hidden stories between the official logs, and the timeless human drive to explore what lies beyond the maps.

From quiet reflection by the fire to the roar of the sea, from ancient island legends to the brutal realities of life aboard ship, the music journeys through wonder, hardship, discovery, and loss. Blending atmospheric folk, orchestral swells, sea shanties, and raw maritime energy, Beyond the Charts is both a tribute to one of history’s greatest navigators and a meditation on the cost of venturing into uncharted waters.

Below is the song list with images and descriptions!

The album is listed alongside the book in our store!

The Old Man and the Fire

An elderly man sits by the hearth, learning to truly read history — not as cold facts, but as living flame. A warm, introspective opener that kindles the spark of curiosity.

The Boy Who Watched the Tides

Young James Cook stands on the shore, mesmerized by the pull of the ocean. Restless melodies and swelling tides mark the awakening of a future explorer.

Beyond the Charts (Title Track)

The heart of the album. A sweeping anthem about the book itself — the voyages, the unknowns, the rumours, and what still lies waiting beyond every chart we think we know.

The Whitby Way

Cook’s early years on the tough coal ships out of Whitby. Gritty rhythms and Yorkshire salt air capture the hard-earned seafaring skills that shaped the man.

The Endeavour

The first voyage begins. Epic and purposeful, this track follows the sturdy collier-turned-exploration ship into the vast Pacific.

Pump or Drown

A high-energy sea shanty that captures the relentless, back-breaking work of keeping a leaking wooden ship afloat. Classic maritime grit.

Children of the Stone

Ancient tales of the islanders — how they came to their remote homes across the ocean. Haunting and mythic, giving voice to the people Cook encountered.

The Outer Lands

The places Cook found that never made it into the official maps or sanitized narratives. Mysterious and expansive, evoking hidden coastlines and forgotten truths.

Kealakekua Bay

The tragic final chapter: Cook’s death in Hawaii. Tense, powerful, and unflinching.

Return Without Him

The sorrowful voyage home after losing their captain. A haunting close to the main narrative.

bonus tracks!

The Penguins Watched Us

The grim but necessary business of hunting penguins for food and warmth in the freezing southern latitudes.

Banyan Day (Again)

A classic galley shanty about the dreaded “meat-free” days every sailor hated — when the stores ran low and spirits sank.

Who Stole The Rum

A rowdy, fun maritime sing-along that builds to a drunken finale. Pure sea-dog mischief to lighten the voyage.
